1. Introduction

Meritune LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Meritune mobile application (the "App"), a social platform that connects music fans with artists. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. Please read this policy carefully.

By using Meritune, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with our policies and practices, please do not use our App.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account and Profile Information

When you create an account, we collect:

• Email address – Required for account creation and verification (e.g., OTP verification)

• Username – Display name or handle you choose

• Phone number – Optional; only if you provide it

• Profile photo – Optional; uploaded when you add a profile picture

• Location – City/region you enter (e.g., "Los Angeles, CA, USA") used for the Near You feed. We may convert this to approximate latitude/longitude coordinates for distance calculations

• Preferred streaming service – Optional; e.g., Spotify, Apple Music

2.2 User Content

When you use the App, we collect:

• Posts – Captions, images, and music track information you share

• Comments – Comments you post on other users' content

• Likes, saves, and follows – Your engagement with other users' content

2.3 Authentication

• Email/OTP – We use email for verification and sign-in

2.4 Location Information

• Location type: We collect coarse location (city/region level), not precise GPS coordinates. You enter your location manually (e.g., via text input or search suggestions).

• Purpose: Near You feed – to show you posts from artists in your area and allow you to set a distance radius (e.g., 10mi, 25mi, 50mi, nationwide).

• How we use it: We may convert your location text to approximate coordinates (latitude/longitude) for distance calculations. We do not use device GPS or continuous location tracking.

2.5 Device and Technical Information

• Push notification token – To send you push notifications (e.g., new content, likes, comments). Push notifications are optional and can be disabled at any time in your device settings.

• Device platform – iOS or Android

• Device model and OS version – Collected when you submit a report or bug report

• Timezone – For notification scheduling

We currently do not use third-party analytics platforms.

2.6 Reports and Bug Reports

When you report content, a user, or submit a bug report:

• Report metadata – App version, device model, OS, OS version (to help us investigate)

• Bug report content – Title, description, and optional screenshots you upload

2.7 Blocking and Moderation

• Block list – When you block a user, we store which users you have blocked so we can hide their content from your feeds

• Reports – When you report a post, comment, or user, we store the report and associated metadata for moderation purposes

2.8 Photos and Camera Access

Meritune allows users to upload images and media content from their device.

The app primarily accesses your photo library to let you select and upload existing content. Meritune does not access your photos without your permission.

Some devices or operating systems may request camera permissions as part of the media selection process. Meritune does not actively use the camera to capture new photos or videos unless you explicitly choose to do so through your device's system interface.

We do not access or store your media outside of content you choose to upload within the app.

3. How We Collect Information

• Directly from you – When you create an account, edit your profile, post content, comment, like, follow, block, or report

• Automatically – Push token, device platform, and timezone when you enable notifications

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Provide the App – Create and manage your account, display feeds, posts, comments, and notifications

• Enable features – Near You feed (location-based discovery), follows, likes, saves, blocking, reporting

• Moderate content – Review reports, enforce content policies, and take action when necessary (e.g., hiding content, banning artists)

• Send notifications – Push notifications about new content, engagement, and support messages

• Improve the App – Debug issues, analyze usage patterns, and support you when you contact us

• Comply with law – Respond to legal requests and enforce our terms

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third parties to operate the App:

• Supabase – Authentication, database, storage, push notifications. Data shared: Account data, user content, push tokens, profile images

• Expo – App framework, push notifications. Data shared: Push tokens, device info

• Google Maps Platform – Geocoding API (convert location text to coordinates), Places API (location autocomplete). Data shared: Location strings you enter

Apple Music: Meritune uses the Apple Music Catalog API to display track information (titles, artwork, and 30-second previews) and to help artists verify their identity during signup. We do not access your Apple Music account, library, playlists, or listening history. The app does not connect to any user's personal streaming account. Music previews are played from public catalog data only. We comply with Apple Music integration requirements: previews are limited to 30 seconds or less; artwork is requested at appropriate dimensions via the API and used only in connection with music playback and display; playback is user-initiated with standard media controls; and we do not download, upload, or share music files.

Important: We do not sell your personal information. Meritune does not use third-party advertising networks and does not track users across other apps or websites. We do not share data with data brokers.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We may share your information:

• With other users – Your username, profile photo, location (if set), posts, and comments may be visible to other users of the App. Content you choose to post is considered public within the App.

• With service providers – Supabase, Expo, and Google Maps Platform (Geocoding/Places) as described above

• For legal reasons – When required by law, court order, or government request

• For safety – To protect our users, enforce our terms, or prevent fraud

7. Blocking and Banning

• Blocking users: When you block a user, we store which users you have blocked. Blocked users cannot see your content in their feeds, and you will not see theirs. You can unblock users at any time under Settings → Blocked users.

• Banning artists: We may permanently ban artists who violate our policies. Banned artists cannot use the App. Ban decisions are made by our moderation team.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

• Active accounts: We retain your data while your account is active.

• Account deletion: When you delete your account, we delete:

- Your profile and profile data

- Your posts, comments, likes, follows, saves

- Your push notification tokens

- Your blocked users list

- Your auth identity (email and sign-in credentials)

• Reports and moderation: We may retain certain report and moderation data for legitimate purposes such as safety, fraud prevention, and legal compliance, even after account deletion. We may retain certain backup logs or moderation records for up to 90 days after account deletion.

9. Your Rights and Choices

9.1 Account Deletion

You can delete your account:

• In the App: Settings → Delete my account. You will be asked to type "Delete my account" to confirm.

• Outside the App: Visit https://meritune.app/delete-account or email delete@meritune.app to request deletion. We will process requests within 30 days.

9.2 Privacy Choices

• Location: You can change or remove your location in your profile settings. The Near You feed is optional; you can use other feeds without it.

• Push notifications: You can disable push notifications in your device settings.

• Block list: You can unblock users at any time under Settings → Blocked users.

9.3 Data Access and Portability

You may request a copy of your data by contacting privacy@meritune.app. We will respond within 30 days.

9.4 EU/UK/California Users

If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable law (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), including rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your data. Contact us at privacy@meritune.app to exercise these rights.

10. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including:

• Encryption in transit – HTTPS for all data transmission

• Secure storage – Data stored in Supabase with appropriate access controls

• Authentication – Secure sign-in via email

While we take reasonable steps to protect your information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure.

11. Children

Meritune is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@meritune.app and we will delete it.

12. International Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using the App, you consent to such transfers. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place where required by law.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy at https://meritune.app/privacy-policy and updating the "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
